
Inclusive Islam Curriculum Unit 2
In Unit 2, “What is God”, your child will be introduced to the concept of God, or Allah, and explore what God means to us as Muslims. We’ll also look at how other faith traditions, including Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Indigenous traditions, understand God. You and your child will have the opportunity to reflect on the presence of God within each of us and the importance of prayer in bringing us closer to God.

Does God Exist?
In Lesson 1 students will explore the question of God’s existence, reflecting on the concept of God and the presence of God in our lives. We will then look at the beauty of the natural world to understand all of these wonders as signs of God. Students will also be introduced to the perspectives of other religious traditions to understand how other religions view God’s existence.

In Lesson 2, students will learn that God, or Allah, is present in everything, including inside each one of us. Students will explore how we can look for and find God, not only within ourselves, but also within those we meet, learning that God is always with us and always listening.

Why do We Pray?
In Lesson 3, students will learn about the diverse ways people pray and the various reasons that people turn to God in prayer. Together, we’ll also explore how different religious traditions approach prayer to highlight their unique practices as well as the similarities they share with Islamic prayer.

God and Science
In Lesson 4, students will explore the question, “What is science?” by examining the common elements of the universe and the connections between these elements that unite all of God’s creations. Students will also consider the role that science plays in helping us to better understand the world that God created by encouraging us to ask questions and inspiring curiosity.
